Gumbo Contest Fundraiser
Experience a flavorful adventure at the Gumbo Contest hosted by the Destin History & Fishing Museum, where participants can register as Individuals or represent their Restaurants. This vibrant contest invites chefs and enthusiasts alike to showcase their gumbo-making skills, adding a dash of friendly competition to Destin’s rich history.
Two Divisions of Competition

Entry for Individuals
Individual division’s 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners will receive awards and prizes. There will also be a People’s Choice Award from votes by patrons.
3 Gallons or more of your best gumbo.
Bring hot gumbo in a pot to Destin Community Center by 9:00 AM on Saturday January 27, 2024. Your gumbo will be transferred into a serving container heated with sterno. NO ELECTRICAL OUTLETS AVAILABLE.
Bring your gumbo to the back door of the Community Center Gym(west side). NOT THRU KITCHEN. You will have an assigned table area.
Your entry will be given a number so the judges will not know entrants’ names.
After judging, at 11:00 AM the gumbo will be open to the public. Awards will be presented at 1:00 PM. You may serve your own gumbo or we can assign a server. Please let us know so we can plan a server.

Entry for Restaurants
Restaurant division’s 1st , 2nd & 3rd place winners will receive a trophy to be placed at your business and you earn the bragging rights claiming the BEST gumbo in the panhandle! There will also be a People’s Choice Award from votes by patrons.
5 Gallons or more of your best Gumbo. There is no cash fee to participate.
Bring hot gumbo in a serving or warming dish to Destin Community Center by 9:00 AM on Saturday January 27, 2024. You may bring the judges’ sample at that time and begin setting up your table area. You may bring the rest as you prepare for the event to open to the public at 11 AM. Judges will be served in the small sampling soufflé cups.
Bring your gumbo to the back door of the Community Center Gym (west side) NOT IN KITCHEN. You will deliver your gumbo to your designated table to be checked in by the committee.
Your entry will be assigned a letter so the judges will not know the entrants’ names.
You will have a full table which you may decorate as you wish. After judging, at 11 AM the gumbo will be open to the public. Due to the lack of sufficient electrical outlets in the Community Center, you will need to use sterno to keep your gumbo hot. To help patrons in casting their vote for the People’s Choice award, please provide small soufflé cups with your restaurant name. Please bring crackers for your station. We will provide all other supplies such as spoons, napkins, condiments, trays.
Awards will be presented at 1:00 PM so if you could have someone representing your restaurant there to accept the award that would be great.
If you can not be present we will hand deliver your trophy to your establishment.
